Homes delivered to first Bonteheuwel infill housing project beneficiaries

13 July 2025

The City of Cape Town’s Human Settlements Directorate handed over the first 28 homes to beneficiaries and their families at the R140 million Bonteheuwel housing project. The project comprises a total of 273 Breaking New Ground (BNG) State-subsidised houses and is expected to be completed by June 2026 if all goes to plan.

The Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim and officials in the Human Settlements Directorate shared this special moment with the first beneficiaries.

‘The City is proud to celebrate the official handover of homes to the first 28 families of the Bonteheuwel Infill housing project. This is a milestone moment for us, and over the coming weeks and months we will be handing over more homes to the remaining beneficiaries. This project will ultimately benefit 273 families from Bonteheuwel and surrounds, once completed in June 2026.

‘This project holds a special place in my heart. We broke ground on site in 2024, and we watched this project evolve from the development planning phase to construction and now to handing over keys to the rightful beneficiaries. The City’s teams, contractors and I have walked this journey with the community since day one and it is truly a joy to share this moment with the beneficiaries and their families.

‘The City remains committed to accelerating housing delivery and to uplifting communities across the metro. We thank the Bonteheuwel community, City Human Settlements officials and all partners for making this day possible,’ said Councillor Pophaim.

Beneficiaries of City housing projects are selected in accordance with the City's Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Needs Register to ensure housing opportunities are made available in a fair and transparent manner that prevents queue jumping and to those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation.
